Dear Sieplinga Family and Friends:
Please accept my deepest sympathy and my prayers for comfort to you all.
Living in St. Petersburg, Florida, for the past 30 years or so, I did not get to see Mr. Dob Sieplinga recently as much as others living in the Muskegon area, but I would like to share a few of my fond memories of Mr. Dob Sieplinga, particularly growing up at Bethany CRC.
I remember Mr. Sieplinga as one who always liked to help and encourage.
I remember how he said with tears in his eyes that he was proud of me at my mother's (Yvonne Hornbeck) funeral at Bethany in 1995. That meant so much to me then, and it continues to bless me as I think of it.
I remember being in distress at Bethany with the possibility of being embarassed, maybe in tears at my mother's funeral, and he quickly pulled out his hankerchief to save me.
I remember how just recently, in January 2009, he encouraged me by a comment that he wrote at my devotional web site.
Finally, in a fond memory, I remember how he tried to intervene to help some difficulty on a small stage. Maybe, it was a play at church or somewhere else. He got on his knees and stuck his head behind the curtain and was working to do whatever he could on the small stage behind the curtain. He did not realize at first that his butt was sticking out of the curtain facing toward the audience. He was just concerned about helping behind the curtain as he could. When he finally heard a few laughs, and realized his butt was sticking out of the curtains toward the audience, he meekly turned around to the audience and said something like: "It is not a pretty sight." We all died laughing with him in appreciation for both the help that he was trying to give and for his sense of humor.
Finally, from talking with one of his nephews, that may be a good way to pay tribute to him. He always looked for chances to help others, particularly behind the scene, but he always carried that beautiful smile and sense of humor. He was truly an ambassador of Christ. Well done, good and faithful servant! Enter the joy of your Master! Matthew 25:23.
Yours truly,
