John Edward "Big John" Medema Jr.'s Obituary
Mr. John Edward Medema Jr., age 60, passed away Sunday Evening, March 15, 2009, at his home. John was born May 18, 1948 to John and Gladys (Middlecamp) Medema. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. John loved golfing, competitive shooting, ice fishing, hunting, or just being outdoors. He trained horses and enjoyed gardening and landscaping. John was a member of Fox Lake Gun Club and Oceana Golf Course. On July 2, 1988, he married the former Rhona Mead in Muskegon, and she survives him. John is also survived by his son, Nicholas Cummins of Omaha, NE; special adopted children, Shannon Chaffee and Matthew Schrouder, both of Muskegon and Angie Smith of Rothbury; a brother, Mike (Paulette) Medema of North Muskegon; a sister, Judy (Dick) Archambault of Baltimore, MD; and several nieces and nephews, cousins and many, many friends. John was preceded in death by his parents. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 3:00 PM, Thursday at the VFW Post #8846, 1061 Witham Rd., with Rev. Ben Jansen officiating and Full Military Rites under the auspices of the VFW #8846 Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be made to the family.
