What a priviledge it has been to have John Bultema in the Muskegon community. It was always exciting to pick up the newspaper and see what new project he and George were developing. Sixteen years ago, I was blessed to find a life long best friend in Sarah, and have the opportunity to become close with her amazing family. John provided us with countless memories that have remained near and dear to my heart. He was the ultimate dad which i got to experience whenever i went over to their house. For Sarah and I he created treasure hunts, hand delivered buttery popcorn and banana milkshakes to us so we would never miss a minute of our movie during a sleepover, let us ride on the back of the Fountain, take us on trips, and play with us... to name a few things. I'll never forget the time I told him about the date who stood me up.. John threatened to kick his butt and then offered to be my date to dinner instead :). He was an amazing man, an incredibly loving father to Sarah and the rest of his children, a proud and adoring grandpa, a wonderful husband to Debi, and a friend to so many. I will never forget his kindness, his generousity, his sense of humor, or his warm personality. My heart continues to go out to Debi, Sarah, Dena, John, Angie and Amy and the rest of the Bultema family. The strength, love, and support you have given each other during this difficult time is incredible and something I'm sure John would be proud of. I had the privilege of being a sort of quasi member of the Bultema family for about 7 years. The first time I was ever around John for any length of time, it became obvious to me that he was an extrodinary man. The word extrodinary extends to his family as well. I remember being down in Florida with him and after a day of fishing I had burnt my feet so bad I could hardly walk. John, in usual fashion seemed to be aware everytime I planned to stand or walk and he would jump to help me. I used his shoulder as a crutch most every where we went for the rest of the vacation. This told me everything I need to know about John and the type of man he was. It is hard to describe what John was to me, at times a father, a brother or a friend... But always a friend. I loved John's sense of humor, it was larger than life! I have so many fun times to look back on with him, we both took any chance to laugh as an "opportunity"! "This is not a dress rehearsal".. I first heard this from John at least 15 years ago and not too often a week goes by that I don't say it myself, even to this day. John was my BIG brother in so many ways. His humor, advice, and generosity, friendship, his love for his family will be missed in the years ahead.
