John J. Flickema's Obituary
Mr. John J. Flickema, age 99, went to be with his Lord Tuesday afternoon, January 20, 2009, in Muskegon. He was born August 22, 1909 to John & Anna (Boelkins) Flickema, in Muskegon, where he resided until moving to Fremont for 13 years, in 1944. He then again resided in Muskegon until moving to Grand Haven 25 years ago. He was a member of Bethany Christian Reformed Church where he served as an Elder and Deacon; and had also served on the board of Muskegon Christian School. Mr. Flickema was an Abstractor for Muskegon Title Company for 33 years prior to his retirement in 1970. John’s retirement years were enjoyable and active. He golfed every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, played shuffleboard in Florida, tended his yard and loved to play cards. On November 23, 1939 he married the former Wilma Kolk who survives him along with 3 children, Richard “Dick” (Patricia) Flickema of Spring Lake, Judith (Thomas) Russell of Grand Rapids and Rosalyn (Ross) Kieft of Grand Haven; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his great-granddaughter, Kaleigh Sandoval; 1 sister and 4 brothers. SERVICES will be 1:00 PM Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Bethany Christian Reformed Church (1105 Terrace St.) with Pastor David Sieplinga officiating. Burial will be in Lakeshore Cemetery, Grand Haven Township, MI. VISITATION will be 2-4 and 7-9 PM Friday at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 737 Apple Avenue, Muskegon, MI 49442 (231-726-5210). MEMORIAL GIFTS to Muskegon Christian School, Western Michigan Christian High School or Bethany Christian Reformed Church will be appreciated.
