John J. Miedema's Obituary
Mr. John J. Miedema, age 87, passed away Saturday morning, January 14, 2012 in Muskegon. He was born February 10, 1924 to Anthony and Gertrude (Aten) Miedema in North Blendon, Ottawa Co., MI, where he resided until moving to Muskegon, 60 years ago. John was a member of First Congregational Church and was retired from Wagoner Transportation. John loved to hunt; and fish with his boat and garden with his John Deere tractor. SURVIVORS include his wife, the former Mary Styf; 6 children. Joni (Trent) Taylor of Lansing, MI, Shann Walburn of Muskegon, Rosemary (Jim) Robbins of Woodhaven, MI, Randy (Wilma) Overweg of Muskegon, Monte (Dianne) Overweg of Portland, MI and Steven (Debbie) Overweg of Flushing, MI; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and by 4 siblings, Marjeanna Saagman, Ben (Norma) Miedema, Ken (Betsy) Miedema and Larry Miedema. He was preceded in death by his son, John Mark Miedema on October 1, 2010; and by his grandson, Todd Overweg. SERVICES will be 1PM Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, In., 6291 S. Harvey Street, Norton Shores, MI 49444 (231-798-1100). VISITATION with John’s family will be one-hour prior to the service. For a more lasting memorial, you are asked to consider St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
