John M. Flora, Jr.'s Obituary
Mr. John M. Flora, Jr., age 97, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2011, in Norton Shores. He was born July 2, 1914, in Muskegon to John and Filomena (D’Arcangelo) Flora, and resided here his entire life. John was a member and organist at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church prior to that. He worked for 54 years at Brickner & Kropf Machine Company before retiring in 1986 as CEO. John was a member of the National Association of Purchasing Agents, and also played piano in the Tiny Piper Orchestra for over 50 years. On September 7, 1940, he married the former Genevieve “Gen” Perri, and she preceded him in death on August 16, 2005. SURVIVORS include 2 children, Gloria Linn and Larry (Peggy) Flora, both of Muskegon; he leaves behind his loving grandchildren and great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. John was also preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Flora. THE MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be 11AM Saturday at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church (451 Getty St.) with Rev. Fr. Antony Britto officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 6-8PM Friday at The Walburn Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. 231-759-8565 with a Rosary being prayed at 7:30PM, and visitation 1 hour prior to the service at church, from 10-11AM. Entombment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution to Harbor Hospice or Our Lady of Grace will be appreciated.
