I met Mr. Haugh when I was twenty seven years of age (30 years ago). His son Andrew and I shared an apartment in Grand Rapids. We had more laughs than anyone could possibly share. I was employed as a Marketing Representative for The Hartford Insurance Group and my sojourn to Grand Rapids was the beginning of a nine month on the job training stint. Can you imagine a company doing that today? Andy took me home to meet his family. I met Mrs Haugh, Johnnie and Annie as well. Heck, Annie was just a kid. I recall a large older home situated not far from the inner city. You must realize, I was born and raised in Connecticut, forty miles from Manhattan so the mid-west was very new to me. Mr. Haugh (and Mrs.) were very affable, likeable people. They made me feel like I was in my own home. I was impressed that Mr. Haugh had retired from a major corporation like Gulf Oil. That was when service stations were service stations replete with tires, batteries and accessories. From Michigan, I got my first assignment, Columbus Ohio, where I became a (sorry) Buckeye fan to this day. I met a woman there who was divorced and had a six year old son. Andrew and Mr. and Mrs Haugh attended our backyard wedding in Ohio. We moved back to Connecticut in 1985 and recently celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary. "My son" is 31, married and I have a five year old grandaughter who is the love of my life.Your parents were wonderful people and I will always recall them with fondness. They were blessed to have you children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.##imported-begin##Joseph Oddie##imported-end##
