John S. Gawkowski's Obituary
Mr. John S. Gawkowski, age 92, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2010 in Muskegon. He was born January 31, 1918 in Muskegon to Frank and Marcyanna (Savitsky) Gawkowski, and was a life resident of the area. Marcyanna passed away when John was two years old, and was raised by Stefania Savitsky who married Frank. Mr. Gawkowski was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He worked 44 years at CWC Textron, before retiring in 1970. On February 18, 1939 he married the former Pauline Levendosky, and together celebrated 71 years of marriage. She survives him along with 2 children, Frank (fiancée, Kay Bach) Gawkowski of Portage, MI and Sandra (Skip) Rihm of Carol Stream, IL; 9 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and his 3 nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Walter “Gov” Gawkowski and his wife Rose; and niece, Linda Rafferty. The MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be 11AM Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Thomas J. Brown presiding. VISITATION with the family will be 1 hour prior to the service, from 10-11 AM. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Memorial Contributions to Mercy Visiting Nurses will be appreciated.
