Jon Frank Tiles' Obituary
Mr. Jon Frank Tiles, age 75, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026 in Grand Rapids, Michigan from complications of ALS. He was born in Grand Haven, Michigan on March 21, 1950 to Frank and Wilma (Peterson) Tiles. On October 20, 1979, Jon married the former Marcy Ann Essenberg at their home in Nunica and they enjoyed 46 years of marriage. Jon was the co-owner and operator of Tiles Excavating for 45 years. He was a proud member of Ducks Unlimited, Whitetail Unlimited, and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Jon was known as an avid collector of antiques, coins, arrowheads, and any treasures he could uncover while metal detecting. He especially enjoyed trips to Colorado for elk hunting, fishing excursions, and tending to his fruitful vegetable garden. A talented woodworker, Jon was well known for the many birdhouses he crafted and generously gave away to family and friends. Above all, Jon will be remembered as a loving family man who enjoyed a good conversation and the simple pleasures of life. He is survived by his wife, Marcy; children, Sheila Marie Tiles and Patrick (Kate) Darga; grandchildren, Jarred Jon Tiles, Alison Hammond, and Jessica Darga; siblings, Vonna (Bruce) Niemiec, Steve (Marilyn) Tiles, Susan Jane (Dave) Weick, Beverly (Jerome) Schultz, Idy Tiles, James (Cheryl) Tiles, and Sallie (David) Schmidt; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Randall, Thomas, and Frank Tiles. VISITATION will be from 5-8 PM Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444.
