Jonathan W.R. Ginka's Obituary
Officer Jonathan W.R. Ginka, age 34, passed away in the line of duty on May 10, 2017 in Norton Shores. He was born on March 18, 1983 to Steven “Will” and Marcia (Meloche) Ginka in Kent County. Jonathan received his first communion and was confirmed at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. He graduated from North Muskegon High School and achieved a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Grand Valley State University. Jonathan was a 10-year patrol officer with the Norton Shores Police Department and a member of the F.O.P. Charles D. Hammond Lodge 99. He had a great sense of humor, enjoyed anything Disney, online gaming especially with Tim Thielbar and other friends, bike riding, but most importantly spending time with his girls. On April 26, 2006, Jonathan married Tricia Michalski and she survives him along with daughters, Allison and Keira; brother, Patrick (Amber) Ginka; special niece, Zari and special twin nephews, Jack and Will; grandparents, Raymond and Liz Meloche, Baba Ginka; in-laws, Mike and Barbara Michalski; chocha and godmother, Mary Ginka; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. The MASS of CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be held 11 AM, Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church (1110 Dykstra Rd.) with Rev. Fr. Peter Vu presiding. VISITATION with the family will be held 2-4 & 6-8 PM Monday at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., 231-798-1100. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Norton Shores Crime Prevention Fund or Wounded Warriors Project in Jonathan’s name. Burial will take place at Laketon Township Cemetery.
