Joni L. Starkey's Obituary
Joni Lee Starkey, age 56, of Grand Haven passed away peacefully Saturday, April 9, 2011, at home. She was born February 5, 1955, in Grayling, MI, to Harold and Evelyn (LaRowe) Russell, and she married Daniel J. Starkey on September 17, 1977 in Mancelona, MI.
Joni graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in engineering and Western Michigan University with an MBA. She worked as an engineer at McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis and more recently at Santo Stefano Del Lago in Grand Haven. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church of the Dunes, where she was involved in Ruth Circle, served as Chair of Missions Commission and United Methodist Women. Joni loved spending time with family and friends, and also, especially enjoyed traveling. Joni enjoyed scrap booking, gourmet cooking and her book club.
Joni will be forever loved and missed by her husband, Dan; her daughter, Elaine; and son, Daniel, both at home; parents, Harold and Evelyn Russell of Mancelona; one sister, Jan Crawford of Traverse City; three brothers: Dean (Donna) Russell of Romeo, MI, Gene (Laurie) Russell of Ludington, and Jody (special friend Rob) Russell of Traverse City, special friends; Debra, Gay, Jill, Karla, and Lynnda.
The service for Joni will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at the United Methodist Church of the Dunes in Grand Haven with Rev. Daniel Duncan officiating. Friends may meet the family 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at the funeral home in Grand Haven. Interment will be in the United Methodist Church Remembrance Garden.
