Mr Joseph Russell Belanger's Obituary
Mr. Joseph R. Belanger, age 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 7, 2016. He was born on December 27, 1930 in Traverse City, MI to Jerry and Philomena (Lacross) Belanger. Joseph served his country in the United States Army, and was a Korean War Veteran with three Purple Heart medals. He was a retired plumber and pipefitter and belonged to the Plumbers and Pipefitter’s Union, Local 174. He was also a member of the V.F.W., American Legion, the D.A.V., and Sacred Heart Catholic Church. In 1952, Joseph married Violet V. Schaub and the two raised four wonderful children. Survivors include his wife, Violet; daughters, Jan (Kenneth) Zellar, Pam (Joel) Beals, Melinda (Jim) Hoppus, and Angela (Rick) Sluyter; 8 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Abraham, Jim, Burt, Leonard, Wally, Bob, and Skip; sister, Hilda; and his best little friend, his dog; Candy. In accordance to Joseph’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering will take place on October 1, 2016 from 1-5 PM at the V.F.W. Post 3195, 5209 Grand Haven Rd, Norton Shores.
