Mr. Joseph J. "Joe" Filipiak's Obituary
Beloved husband and father Joseph J. Filipiak, 85, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, March 29, 2014 with his wife by his side. Born March 14, 1929 to John and Gladys (Glacz) Filipiak, in Muskegon, he lived in several other cities as his career directed, before returning to this area. Joe served in the US Navy during World War II. He married the former Veda Clifford October 28, 1950 in Muskegon and she survives him. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Spring Lake, and the Grand Haven American Legion Post 28. He retired as Divisional Vice President of May’s Department Stores in St. Louis, MO, and previously worked for Amstore and Teledyne Continental Motors Corp. HIS SURVIVORS include his wife, Veda; five children: Michael (Nancy) Filipiak, Jim Filipiak, Christine (Tom) Mulrooney, Joe Filipiak Jr., and Julie (Mark) Wibbenmeyer; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Pat Furlo and Gloria Cotton. His parents, daughter-in-law Terri, and granddaughter Ashley preceded him in death. Joe loved his family and enjoyed being with his grandchildren. He loved to fish as often as he could. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS to Harbor Hospice would be appreciated.
