Joseph A. "Joe" Heidenga's Obituary
Joseph A. Heidenga, age 51, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 4, 2023. He was born on September 28, 1971, to Raymond Heidenga and Judith Caine in Grand Rapids, MI, calling it home most of his life. Joe graduated from West Catholic High School class of 1989. He then continued to trade school where he began mastering his craft. Joe was a dedicated employee of Andy J. Egan Co., where he dedicated 25 years working as a pipefitter. In his earlier days, Joe was a talented soccer player, and held the record of most goals and assists in the state of Michigan! He enjoyed the outdoors, always fishing and shooting. He was a skilled cook and took pleasure in smoking meats and grilling while listening to his favorite tunes. Above all, he truly loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Joe was known for his sense of humor, always joking around, and pulling pranks whenever the opportunity arose. He was an honest and loyal man who always told it like it was. Joe will truly be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his five children, Cameron (Sabrina) Heidenga, Brooke Heidenga, Abbigail (Tyler Rohloff) Heidenga, Madeline Heidenga and Connor Heidenga; two grandchildren, Owen and Henrik Heidenga; mother, Judith Caine; siblings, Mary (Joseph) Schafer, Elizabeth (Robert) Stickroe, Jane (Tom) Garland and Daniel (Melissa) Heidenga; and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Heidenga; brother, John Heidenga; and stepfather, Michael Caine. A Memorial Service will be held on 11 AM Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at St. Patrick-St. Anthony Catholic Parish Church, 920 Fulton St., Grand Haven, MI 49417, with visitation one-hour prior. A public visitation will be held from 6-8:00 PM on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444.
