Joseph Alfonse Helsen's Obituary
Joseph Alfonse Helsen Sr. age 82 of Ravenna died, Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Mercy General Health-Mercy Campus surrounded by his loving family.
Joseph was born on March 5, 1932 in Wright Township, Michigan to the late Alfonse and Louise (VanDunn) Helsen. Joe married Mary Helen (Levandowski) Helsen on October 13, 1956 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Ravenna. Joe served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked for Sealed Power for 36 years retiring in 1994. Joe loved his family, farming and woodworking in his shop.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 58 years: Mary “Helen†Helsen of Ravenna, 1 Daughter: Joan and Madison Helsen-Lauer of Spring Lake. 4 Sons: Joseph (Kerri) Helsen Jr. of Cloverville, John (Debbie) Helsen, Jim (Cheryl) Helsen and Jerry (Jamie) Helsen all of Ravenna. 17 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren. 1 Brother: Gene (Margaret) Helsen of Ravenna, 2 Sisters: Bernadine Klein of Kenowa, Mi and Josephine (Jim) Piccard of Marne. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, 1 Brother: Ike Helsen, 4 Sisters: Margaret Helsen, Marie Stuhan, Kate Morgan and Betty Klein.
Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated on Monday, March 9, 2015 at 10:30am at the St. Catherines Catholic Church in Ravenna with Father Fred Brucker celebrant. Burial will be at St. Catherines Catholic Cemetery.
The family will be at the St. Catherines Hall on Sunday, March 8, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 6:00 to 8:00pm to receive friends. The Rosary will be prayed at 8:00pm.
