Joseph "Larry" L. Griffin's Obituary
Joseph L. “Larry” Griffin, age 80, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2026. He was born on July 24, 1945, to Harold and Martha “Joan” (Miller) Griffin Sr. in Sistersville, West Virginia. Larry graduated from Clinton High School (IA) with the Class of 1963 and went on to continue his education at Iowa State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering. He served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard in Iowa during the Vietnam War. On September 24, 1966, Larry married the love of his life, Mary Margaret Donahue, in Clinton, Iowa. Together, they shared 60 years filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. He was a dedicated employee of Gerber Products Co. where he worked as an executive before retiring in 1997. Larry found joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially when surrounded by those he loved most. He had a gift for entertaining and was well known for his masterful grilling skills. A true tinkerer, Larry could fix just about anything he set his mind to. He was also famously known as the number one fan of the Weather Channel. Above all, Larry was a devoted family man who loved unconditionally and treasured every moment spent with his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Griffin; three children, Kimberly (Jeff) Burke, Paul Griffin and Brian (Rebecca) Griffin; six grandchildren, Connor (Maddie) Burke, Erin Burke, Jonathon Griffin, Josie Griffin, Edison Griffin and Claire Griffin; brother, Harold “Frank” (Patricia) Griffin Jr.; sister, Martha Griffin; and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth Griffin; and daughter-in-law, Tara Griffin. Memorial Contributions in Larry’s honor can be directed to The American Heart Association.
