Joseph F. Merbs' Obituary
Mr. Joseph “Joe” Merbs, age 88, passed away Friday evening, March 4, 2005 in Baldwin. He was born April 1, 1916 to Anton and Elizabeth (Meyerhoefer) Merbs in Cullman, AL, and lived the majority of his life in Hopkins, MI before moving to the Muskegon area 29 years ago. He worked for Pet Milk, Co. in Wayland for 35 years, retiring in 1975, and was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. He made the clock in the narthex of the church, was a janitorial volunteer, and a lay Eucharisitic Minister to the sick and home bound church members. On August 24, 1937 he married Madelyn C. Rewa in New Salem, MI. She preceded him in death on March 5, 2002. SURVIVORS include 11 children, Jim (Essie) Merbs, Margaret (Jorge) Fuerst, David (Helen) Merbs, Nancy (Terry) Hammer, Mary Lou (Charles) Burkes, Cathy (Alfredo) Mireles, John (Tracy) Merbs, Janet (David) Nelson, Barbara (Dennis) Earl, Joann (David) Petroski, Josephine Merbs, 31 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild; 1 sister, Mary Brown. THE FUNERAL LITURGY will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, with the Rev. Fr. Robert A. Hart presiding. Burial will take place at Laketon Township Cemetery.
