Joseph George McDaniel's Obituary
Mr. Joseph George McDaniel, aka “Walgreen Joe”, went home to be with his Lord, Sunday afternoon, August 7, 2005 in Muskegon at the age of 68. He was born March 31, 1937 in Grand Rapids, MI, to Warren A. and Cora (Van Os) McDaniel and moved to the Muskegon area when he was 3 months old. He was the father of 7 children, and “Papa” to 15 grandchildren. Joe enjoyed the outdoors and lived to fish. He was often heard saying, “I can’t wait to retire so I have more time to catch no fish.” Joe was known as “Papa”, “Walgreen Joe” and “The Legend” to many people. He married the former Marirose (Hermine) Javinsky on September 7, 1957 in Muskegon Heights. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve for over 5 years. He sold sporting goods at Economy Automotive on Western Avenue and later worked as the Sporting Goods Manager at Walgreen’s on Henry Street, where he retired in 1998 after 30 years. Joe was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and had been active with the Covenant of Healing Love Prayer Community for many years. He is SURVIVED by his wife of 48 years, Marirose; 5 sons, Michael (Mary Beth) McDaniel of Grand Rapids, Joe “Pete” McDaniel of Muskegon, Paul (Lisa) McDaniel of Charlotte, NC, Steve (Tammy) McDaniel of Muskegon, John (Teresa) McDaniel of Muskegon; 2 daughters, Patti (Dave) Pellet of Muskegon, Mary (Jim) Fox of Muskegon; 15 grandchildren, Adam, Tandra, Tony, Kevin, Niki, Derek, Trevor, Doug, Matthew, Mitchell, Emmett, Josh, Mason, Angelique, and Sean; 2 sisters, Mary Goka of Grand Blanc, and Kathleen Fonger of Muskegon. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was a loving and caring father and an even better grandfather. He was a man who touched many with his wonderful human nature and many were honored to have known him – none more than his family. THE FUNERAL LITURGY will be celebrated 2:00 PM Friday, August 12, 2005, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Michael P. Olson presiding.
