Mrs. Josephine R. "Jo" Wierema's Obituary
Mrs. Josephine R. “Jo” Wierema, age 96, passed away Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Brookhaven Medical Care Facility. She was born February 14, 1917 in Chicago, IL to George and Sophia (Zeleznik) Koolovitz and lived in the Muskegon area since she was 7 years old. Jo married Nicholas Wierema, Sr. on August 10, 1940 in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on July 23, 1989. Jo worked as the cook and baker for 26 years at the former McDonalds Restaurant on Getty Street and retired in 1969. She was a member of the Muskegon Eagle’s Nest #668 Auxiliary and helped with collecting for the American Cancer Society. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, bowling and especially spending time with her grandchildren. SURVIVORS include her 2 daughters, Mary Jo (Thomas) Pletcher of Muskegon, Peggy Ann (David) Dolislager of Twin Lake; 1 daughter-in-law, Maureen Wierema of Muskegon; 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her son, Nicholas Wierema, Jr., her parents, and 2 brothers, George and Rudy Koolovitz. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Monday, March 4, 2013 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey Street, (231) 798-1100, with the Rev. Allan J. Engstrom officiating.
