Josephine M. "Jo" Theisen's Obituary
Mrs. Josephine M. “Jo” Theisen, age 81, passed away Friday morning, April 16, 2010, at her residence in Muskegon. Jo was born March 28, 1929 in Muskegon to Karl and Anna (Lenz) Lensler and lived her entire life in the area. She married Eugene J. “Gene” Theisen, in 1952, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Muskegon. Nursing encompassed her vast career at Mercy Hospital; especially within the surgical and teaching areas. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids. Jo was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church where she served as a catechist for several years. She also volunteered many years as a telephone counselor for Crisis Hotline. Supportive, loving, a great listener, and caring for others were wonderful attributes she possessed. Reading was her passion in which she loved to share. Jo had a comical sense of humor. We will miss her immensely, especially her smile, delicious goulash and potato salad. Most of all, Jo loved her family. She was preceded in death by her husband Gene and her 3 infant sons, James, John and Phillip. SURVIVORS include 6 children, Michael (Kim) Theisen of Twin Lake, Carleen Theisen of Illinois, Kathy (Bill) Reeves of Maryland, Mary Marquand of Muskegon, Anne (Tony) Sirianni of Muskegon, Paul (Mimi) Theisen of Maryland; 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Karl (Josephine) Lensler of Maryland; 1 sister, Lucy (Dr. John) Lee of Oklahoma; and her cat, “Smokey”.
