Joseph P. "Joe" Porth's Obituary
Mr. Joseph P. Porth, age 89, passed away August 7, 2011 at a local hospital. He was born on September 14, 1921 to Phillip and Alice (Matka) Porth in Muskegon. Mr. Porth served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. Mr. Porth worked 38 years at Kaydon, prior to his retirement in 1983. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and enjoyed gardening, camping and fishing in his earlier years. On July 14, 1945 he married Jean M. Thomas, his best friend, and she preceded him in death on March 8, 2001. SURVIVORS include 2 sons, Jim (Laura) Porth of Ventura, CA; John Porth of Muskegon; sister, Alice (John) Savickas of Muskegon; two nieces and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his infant brother, Phillip Porth, Jr; brother, Leo Porth; sister, Katherine Youngstrom; half-sister, Sophie Warnar; and half-brother, Zigmund Kaminski. FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, August 11, 2011 at The Sytsema Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Ave. 231-726-5210 with Rev. Fr. Michael Olson presiding. Military Rites will be offered by the Muskegon County Council Veterans of Foreign Wars. VISITATION with the family will be 5-8 PM Wednesday. Burial will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. MEMORIALS may be directed to the Muskegon Rescue Mission.
