Joshua K. Olson's Obituary
Joshua Kenneth Olson, 41, of Grand Haven, passed away surrounded by family and friends on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2024, after a brief but valiant battle with cancer.
Born March 15, 1983, to Jerald and Linda Olson of Muskegon, Michigan. He attended Calvary Christian Schools, Western Michigan Christian Middle School, and Fruitport High School, before graduating from Broadway Baptist School in Muskegon in 2003.
He began working for Rug Rover Property Services, his father’s carpet cleaning and maintenance company established in 1983, as a teenager, and took over ownership in 2014. Josh’s affable personality made working with new clients a natural fit, allowing him to expand the business into most of West Michigan as well as middle Tennessee. He was recognized as a Top Gun Muskegon County commercial carpet cleaning company by the County Advisory Board, not just for his professionalism but dedication to the community.
“I’ll take years off my life before I’ll take life off my years,” was less a motto and more a way of life for Josh. Friends and family were frequently contacted moments before a last-minute plan to hop a flight across the country or across the world. Josh loved company but was never afraid to head to a new destination alone, certain he would make friends along the way. An avid traveler, it was no surprise one of his last acts was to sneak away to Florida for a weekend poolside and in the sun. Friends who looked up his location never knew where he’d ping next: Nashville, Hawaii, Dubai, Belize, Egypt, and everywhere in-between. When he wasn’t traveling, he enjoyed time boating in Spring Lake and beyond, surrounded by friends both old and new. Those who knew and loved Josh will miss his mischievous smile and seeing him at Stan’s Bar, a Michigan ballcap on his head and a Moscow Mule in hand.
Josh is survived by his parents Jerry Olson of Centerville, Ohio, and Linda Olson of Fruitport; older brother Jason (Jessica) Olson of Centerville, Ohio; younger brother Justin (Holly) Olson of Muskegon, “sister wife” Brian (Julie) Klingel of Spring Lake, nieces Annabelle and Allie Olson, nephews Ben, Jackson, and Ian Olson, dozens of cousins, uncles, and aunts whom he loved and cherished, and many special friends who were like family to him. To know Josh was to love him, and the countless number of friends whom he loved like a sibling and who reciprocated that love will forever miss his pranks, late night phone calls, and most of all the amazing experiences he cultivated.
A public visitation will be held at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444 (231) 798-1100 on TUESDAY, DECEMBER 17 from 5-7 p.m., and WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 18 beginning at 12 p.m. Funeral services will begin WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 18 at 1 p.m. at The Lee Chapel, with burial to follow at Lake Forest Cemetery, 1304 Lake Ave., Grand Haven. A celebration of life will commence at 3:00 p.m. at Spring Lake Country Club, 17496 N. Fruitport Rd., Spring Lake. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Joshua K. Olson Trust for a memorial flagpole to be donated to an Ottawa County park in his memory.
