Joy Chalko's Obituary
Joy Chalko, age 79, was born September 18, 1943 to John and H. Irene (Klingbeil) Reed. She entered Heaven on October 8, 2022 surrounded by family. After graduating from Ravenna High School, she married her high school sweetheart, John Chalko Jr., on December 16, 1961. After retiring from Brookhaven Medical Care Facility, she volunteered at Every Woman’s Place, Mercy Hospital, and Hackley Hospital. She enjoyed her bridge club, book club, and playing cards and games with family and friends. Hobbies included ceramics, country painting, quilting, and crocheting. She mostly enjoyed playing cribbage with John. Camping and fishing were favorite activities as well. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing tennis and volleyball with her sister, Sue. She also enjoyed watching old western movies with John. They spent the last several winters in Alamo, Texas at Trophy Gardens RV Park where they made many friends from all over the country. Preceding her in death were nephews: Jeff Pearson and Landon Chalko; sisters-in-law: Judy Groce and Charlotte Chalko; brothers-in-law: Steve Chalko, Lyle Chalko, and Mark Schaab; in-laws: John Sr. and Virginia Chalko; and her parents. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, John Chalko Jr.; sons: John (Yvonne) Chalko III and Troy (Brenda) Chalko; daughter, Kristi (Todd) Conzemius; grandchildren: John (Elise) Chalko, Andrew (Brittany), Daniel, Brook, and Thomas Chalko, Claire, Emma, Reed, and Kate Conzemius; seven great-grandchildren; step-grandchildren: Keith (Heather) Soss and Nicole Vanderstelt; brother, Oscar (Darlene) Reed; sisters: Sue (Gary) Monson and Renee Schaab (Joe Nemeth); and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. SERVICES for Joy will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Holton United Methodist Church (9530 Holton-Duck Lake Rd., Holton, MI 49425) with Pastor Matt Stoll officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place in Twin Lake Cemetery. MEMORIALS to Every Woman’s Place or the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will be appreciated.
