Joyce E. Forbes' Obituary
Joyce E. Forbes, age 97, passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born to George and Lela (Downs) Walters on April 15, 1928, in Evart, Michigan. At the age of nine she moved with her family to Muskegon where she graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1946. She later moved, with her husband Howard, to Colorado where she lived for ten years. While in Colorado she cooked for Meals on Wheels for four and a half years, and then was the head cook at McKee Medical Center for five and a half years. She and her husband moved back to Muskegon in 1987. She continued cooking and had a busy catering business. She cooked at Mike’s Kro Restaurant for fourteen and a half years before finally retiring. Joyce was a wonderful volunteer for the American Red Cross, Fellowship Church where she was a member, and for Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Howard Forbes; her mother, Lela Walters; three sisters; one brother; two special nieces; two special nephews; stepson, Howard Pratt and his wife Vi; special sister like friend, Barbara Snyder; and special friend, Howard W. Brown. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy L. (Richard) Brooke, loving grandchildren, family members, nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service for Mrs. Forbes will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, September 22, 2025, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI, 49444 with Rev. Jorden Meyers officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 2-3:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Norton Cemetery.
