Joyce A. Muston's Obituary
Mrs. Joyce A. Muston, age 87, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 2, 2020. She was born on May 11, 1932 to Jacob and Anna (Weiler) Schmitt in Muskegon. Joyce graduated from St. Mary’s High School. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, dancing, puzzles, traveling, reading and playing computer games. Joyce worked at Teledyne and West Shore Pharmacy for over 20 years as a pharmacy tech. On August 8, 1953, she married her best friend, James Muston at St. Mary’s Church and had 61 blessed and happy years until he passed on February 3, 2015. Joyce volunteered her time at Adopt-A-Reader, the Frauenthal Center, Citizen’s Core and the Library Board. She and Jim were active members of St. Michael’s Brunswick. Joyce is survived by her children, Jeffrey (Terri) Muston and Jacqueline Parish; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sisters, Margaret Houseman and Cecilia Kerr; brothers, Eugene (Ellie) Schmitt and Jerome (Sue) Schmitt; sister-in-law, Pat (Wayne) Franklin; brothers-in-law, John TerBorg and Ken (Connie) Muston; Godchild, Debra Strandberg and many other nieces and nephews; and special friends, Dick & Lorraine Hawkins, Barb Martin and Ed & Elaine Groszowki. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim; parents; grandson, Damien Parish; sisters, Katherine (Bud) Scofield, Madaline Schmitt and Martha (Bob) Beauleaux; brothers, Jake Schmitt and Charles (Theresa) Schmitt; sisters-in-law, Geraldine McAuley and Phyllis TerBorg; and brothers-in-law, Don (Marge) Muston, Jay Kerr, John Houseman and Maurice Palsrock. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11AM Tuesday, January 7 at St. Michaels Catholic Church, Brunswick (6382 S. Maple Island Rd., Fremont, 49412) with Fr. Peter Schafer presiding. Visitation will be held Monday, January 6 from 5-7PM at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442, and one hour prior to the service with the Rosary prayed at 9:30AM at church. Burial will take place at St. Anthony Cemetery.
