Mrs. Joyce Riekels Prince's Obituary
Joyce K. Riekels Prince, age 79, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at the Poppen Residence. A true sweetheart, she was born on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1935 to John and Grace (Langeland) Yonker in Muskegon, Michigan. She lived the majority of her life in Muskegon, and attended Bethany Christian Reformed Church.
Joyce graduated from Muskegon High School where she was the 1st homecoming queen, and met the love of her life, James (Jim) Riekels. They married in June, 1955 and lived happily together raising their family until he passed away in 1981 at the age of 46. Joyce was later married to Lyle Prince (deceased) for 11 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother Nicholas Yonker; and a sister, Carol Jacobson.
Joyce had many talents, hobbies and jobs. She loved life, but above all she loved her family and her Lord. She will be sadly missed by her 3 children, Mark Riekels, Julie (Mark) DeJonge, and Jill (Randy) Sines; 6 grandchildren, Kristin (Ken) Bishop, Kelly (Jacob) Boers, Brianna (Keith) Heimiller, Mitchell (Lindsey) DeJonge, Lucas (Kristin) DeJonge, April Sines; 10 great-grandchildren, Miles, Nellie, Lillian, Carter, Grayson, Lauren, Cole, Mia, Levi, and Cooper; brother, Stanley (Charlotte) Yonker; sister-in-law, Thea Yonker; and brother-in-law, Jerry Jacobson.
The celebration of Joyce’s life will be held at 2:30 PM Thursday, October 2, at the Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, 6291 S. Harvey St. (231) 798-1100, with Rev. David Sieplinga officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Wednesday, also at the funeral home.
