Mrs. Joyce E. Shoup's Obituary
Mrs. Joyce E. Shoup, 87, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2020. She was born October 6, 1932 in Spring Valley, WI to Walter and Hazel (Throndson) Dahms. Joyce moved to West Michigan as a child and graduated from Ravenna High School in 1950. She married Lyle (Bud) Shoup on May 29, 1953. Her greatest accomplishment was raising her children in a loving and Christian environment. She was Secretary for Fruitport Community Schools until her retirement in 1989. She then worked in the family business, Shoup Motor Sales, for the next 10 years. She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church. Joyce enjoyed gardening, flowers, bird watching, all wildlife, crafts and cooking. She made the best potato and grass salads ever. She loved coffee with lots of cream but most of all she loved the Lord and she loved her family. Survivors include her children: Christi (Rich) Robinson, Anthony (Amanda) Shoup, Cathy (Greg) Buckley, Scott Shoup, Daniel Shoup; 4 grandchildren: Michelle (Rich) Serritos, Brian Beckeman, Abigail (Mark) DeYoung, Elizabeth (Alex) Turek; great-grandchildren: Luke Serritos, Ella DeYoung, Ethan DeYoung, Colin Serritos, Emma DeYoung, Brianna Beckeman and Eva DeYoung. She will be greatly missed by her family, her friends and Maggie, her beloved cat and companion for the past 17 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Lyle, her mother and father; 1 son Thomas Shoup; sisters: Patricia Gauthier, Sally Tompkins and Lois Pennell; and her brother Thomas Dahms. Joyce’s family would like to thank the staff at American House – Lloyds Bayou, Advisa Care, Harbor Hospice, Vickie Abbott (Reliance Care) and Beth Moore for all of their help and compassion in caring for mom. The funeral service will be Monday, February 24, at 11:00 AM at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 4475 Henry St., Norton Shores, 49441. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Shoup may be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church, the NOAH Project, or the Harbor Hospice Foundation.
