Joyce Louise Slater's Obituary
Joyce Louise Slater, age 83, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at the Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence. She was born August 5, 1938 in Grant, MI to Willis and Eleanor (Almon) McCann and lived in the Muskegon area since 1956. On April 5, 1958, she married Charles E. “Gene” Slater in Grant. Joyce worked 41 years for Hackley Hospital and retired as a Cancer Registration Clerk in 1999. She was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church where she was chair of the deaconesses, sang in the choir and volunteered with AWANA. She enjoyed research and annually chose a geographical location to study origins and environment. Joyce also enjoyed gardening but especially spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband, Gene Slater; her daughter, Beth Marie Slater; 3 brothers, Melvin (Laurel) McCann, Richard (Barbara) McCann, James (Judy) McCann; her sister, Fontella (Albert) George; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew, Michael George. It was Joyce’s request for private services.
