Joyce E. Vanderlaan's Obituary
Joyce E. Vanderlaan, 92, went to be with her Lord and Savior early Tuesday, January 31, 2023. She was born October 26, 1930, to Harvey and Evelyn (Burge) Kroeze in Muskegon and was a lifelong resident of this area. Joyce had worked for the Muskegon Public Schools system several years ago, and also worked as a bookkeeper for her father’s business, Peerless Plating. She was a longtime active member of Allen Avenue Christian Reformed Church. On August 10, 1951, Joyce married Edwin N. “Ed” Vanderlaan, and he preceded her in death on August 30, 2004. Survivors include four daughters: Sandra (Scott) Jensen, Debra Berg, Pamela (Les) Poort, Lori (Brent ) Weesies; 12 grandchildren: Jamie (Kevin) Cady, Matthew (Abby) Koekkoek, Nathan (Melissa) Koekkoek, Betsy (Nate) Labatt, Sarah (Chad) Wangerin, Emily Jensen, Andrew (Caroline) Jensen, Jennifer (Brandon) Couture, Jessica (Kyle) Rider, Chad (Leah) Weesies, Trevor (Ashley) Poort, Kailey (Doug) Fulton; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great- grandchild; one sister: Shirley VanHees. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law George Berg in 2003, her mother and father, and her sister Beverly Walhout. A special thanks to Dawn, David, Mari, and the entire staff of Dogwood Shores and Hospice of N. Ottawa for the love and care that was extended to Joyce and her family. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 7, at 11:00 AM at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444. Visitation will be Monday evening, February 6, from 6-8 PM, also at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Laketon Township Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Vanderlaan may be made to Dogwood Shores, LLC., or Hospice of N. Ottawa.
