Mrs. Julia J. Mogdis' Obituary
Mrs. Julia J. Mogdis, age 90, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2015 in Muskegon. She was born in Muskegon Heights on February 19, 1924 to Stanley and Anna (Prybicien) Swiatecki. Showing a strong head for business she was the proud owner and operator of the Norton Motel from 1960-1966. More importantly, she was a loving wife, mother, homemaker and excellent cook. She taught her children, by example, the importance of faith, love and giving of oneself. During the last 15 years of her illness she continued to crochet scarves that were given to local charities for distribution. She was also known to enjoy her twice a month trips to the casino. She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, a life-member of the Polish National Alliance and a past member of the Muskegon Elks and Oakridge Golf Club, with her best game a tournament winning 85. On December 28, 1946 Julia married Steve J. Mogdis in Muskegon and stood by her husband’s side with loving support for sixty-eight years. She is survived by her husband Steve J. Mogdis in Muskegon along with her two children, John S. (Carol) Mogdis and Marian (Harold) McDermed; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Irene Gancarz; a brother-in-law, Louie Mogdis and sister-in-law, Sister Louisa Mogdis. She was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Lisa Wallace; one brother, John Swiatecki and one sister, Clara Felan. A MEMORIAL MASS will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 29, 2015 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Philip P. Salmonowicz presiding.
