Julia M. Pickens' Obituary
Julia M. Pickens, age 95, met her Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 17, 2022. She was born on October 6, 1927, to James and Madgie (Copes) Amos in Homer, LA and at the age of 18 made her way to Muskegon, MI. She was a dedicated employee to the former Heritage Hospital for numerous years, where she worked as a cook. On January 6,1945, she married the love of her life, Moses Pickens in Muskegon, MI. Together they spent 54 years filled with love and laughter. Julia was blessed with a green thumb, especially when it came to flowers. She also took pride in always keeping her yard in pristine condition. She was a tender-loving and caring spirit who will truly be missed by all who knew her as “Aunt Julia”. She is survived by her 3 nieces, Pauline (Foster) Frederick, Nellie (James) Winzer and Kay Betts; nephew, Iria “Bo” Shine; and host of great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Moses Pickens; and sister, Maggie Shine. A Homegoing will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 25, 2022, at The Church of the Living God, 4249 Quarterline Rd., Muskegon, MI 49444. A viewing will be held from 10-11:00 AM at the church. Memorial Contributions in Julia’s name can be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association. She will be laid to rest at Sunrise Memorial Gardens Cemetery next to her husband.
