Julie Marie Stewart's Obituary
Julie Marie Vilsmeyer Stewart, 76, of Norton Shores, Michigan, died peacefully at home on Saturday, August 19, 2023. She was preceded in death by her father Henry Edward Vilsmeyer, her mother Ruth Marion Tueffel, and her first husband Jack Michael Stewart.
She is survived by her loving husband Bill Papo; four children: Amy Stewart McIntosh (Randy McIntosh), Jennifer Stewart, Scott Stewart (Jill Hunter), Daniel Stewart (Holly Stewart); and six grandchildren: Taylor Dibble, Emma Dibble, Max Dibble, Avery Dibble, Eliza McIntosh, and Madison Stewart.
Julie was born and lived in Virginia, Minnesota until she left home to attend the University of Minnesota at Duluth where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology/Psychology in 1969. Afterward, she accepted a position with Muskegon County Department of Social Services. In 1971, she met her first husband, Mike, and they lived happily together with their family until his untimely death in 1982.
Julie then returned to school at Grand Valley State University to earn her Master’s Degree in Social Work, working for many organizations in the greater Muskegon area including: Visiting Nurses, Catholic Social Services, Hackley Hospital, and Hospice.
She and her second husband, Bill Papo, shared 27 years of laughter and travel together before she passed.
Julie enjoyed her grandchildren (most of all), her children (only a little less so), traveling with Bill, holiday decorating, working crossword puzzles, membership in Eastern Star, and playing bridge with her Tuesday bridge ladies. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
A funeral service is scheduled for 11 am on Wednesday, August 23, at First Presbyterian Church, 2577 Wickham Drive in Muskegon, followed by a light luncheon.
In place of sending flowers, Julie’s wish was that donations be made to Harbor Hospice of Muskegon County, First Presbyterian Church of Muskegon, or the William Papo and Julie Stewart Printing Management Endowment at Ferris University.
Arrangements by The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. Muskegon, MI 49441 (231) 759-8565. Share memories with the family online at http://www.sytsemafh.com.
