Mr. Julius A. "Jute" Hartsema's Obituary
Mr. Julius A. “Jute” Hartsema, age 91, passed away Sunday evening, February 12, 2012. He was born January 2, 1921 in Muskegon to Abraham and Deena (DeBoer) Hartsema. Mr. Hartsema was a U.S. Army Air Force Veteran of WWII serving his country in the South Pacific. He was the owner/operator of Hartsema Food Distributors for over 40 years before his retirement. He enjoyed golfing, was a member of the SIGMA CHI Fraternity at Michigan State University, and belonged to the Knights of the Round Table which is an organization for handicapped children. He was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he had served as an Elder in the past. On February 9, 1946 he married Elizabeth M. “Boots” McCann in Muskegon and she survives him along with 2 daughters, Patricia Anne (Paul) Mardirosian of Grand Rapids, Betsy Anne (Dale) Rogers of Northern California; 2 grandchildren, Brittany Anne Brown and H. Blake Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Abe Hartsema; sister, Neil Hartsema; and sister-in-law, Margaret Hartsema. A special thank you to the Staff at Seminole Shores Assisted Living Center of Norton Shores, for their care and compassion, and to Harbor Hospice for their support. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, July 12, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. George Hamilton officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the church. MEMORIALS to the Muskegon Rescue Mission or Trinity Lutheran Church will be appreciated.
