Julius "Tony" Winkler's Obituary
Julius Anthony “Tony” Winkler, age 86, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Thursday, January 2, 2020. He was born on October 25, 1933 to Roman and Anna (Lilla) Winkler in Stevens Point, WI. He graduated from St. Mary's High School. After High School Tony proudly served in the United States Air Force. After returning from the service he
enrolled at Michigan State University and recieved an Assocaites Degree. Tony worked for the City of Muskegon for 34 years until his retirement in 1994. Tony was a devoted and active member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. He was a member of the Catholic War Vets, the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #9 and VFW Post #3734. He served as a Boy Scout leader for over 20 years. Tony had a warm and inviting personality. No matter where he went, he never met anyone who wasn’t a friend and always put everyone at ease. His warming smile will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Winkler; children, Stephen Winkler, Ann (Gerben) Kranenborg, Joseph Winkler; daughter-in-law, Nancy Winkler; grandchildren, Anthony (Jenn), Jarod, Joshua, Eric, Sarah; brothers, Roman Winkler and Thomas Winkler. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Winkler; granddaughter, Sabrina Kranenborg; brothers, Leonard, Robert, Francis, and sister, Alice. VISITATION with Tony’s family will take place on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM with a Scripture Service to be prayed at 7:30 PM at The Walburn Chapel of the Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. Norton Shores, MI 49441. A MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will take place on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at 11:00 Am at St. Francis de Sale Catholic Church with Fr. Charles Hall presiding. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery. The family would like to thank everyone at the Johnson Cancer Center and Harbor Hospice for their love and care they showed to Tony. For a more lasting memory, donations in Tony’s name can be made to either the Harbor Hospice Foundation or St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.
