Karen Elizabeth Bolema's Obituary
Mrs. Karen Elizabeth Bolema, age 82, passed away Thursday, January 6, 2022 in Muskegon. She was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on November 18, 1939 to Arthur and Ruby (Anderson) Hedberg. Karen worked as the head of Accounts Payable for Eberhard’s Grocery Headquarters for 20 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of Ferry Memorial Reformed Church where she was active with the prayer shawl ministry. Karen was a talented seamstress, traveled extensively, and enjoyed walks with her husband, Bernard. She also enjoyed spending time at her home riding horses and swimming. On August 7, 1975, Karen married Bernard L. Bolema in Muskegon and he survives her along with three daughters, Holly (Rick) Hughes, Dianne (Tom) Smrcina, and Charlotte (Darren) Breit; nine grandchildren, Morgan Hughes, Taylor (Jonah Ogles) Hughes, John (Kristen) Gibbs, Brenden Gibbs, Michael (Alicia Goll) Smrcina, Carley Smrcina, Collin Breit, Alec (Graciela) Breit, and Chandler Breit; three great-granddaughters, Ava Gibbs, Brielle Gibbs, and Auden Ogles; two brothers, James (Jacqueline) Hedberg and Arthur (Wilma) Hedberg; three nieces, Krista (Robby) Russell, Greta (Tim) Fox, and Elisa (Joe) Dupre; and her beloved Irish Setter, Champion “Champ”. SERVICES will be 2:00 PM Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Ferry Memorial Reformed Church, 8637 Old Channel Trail, Montague, MI 49437 with Rev. John Koedyker and Pastor Alec Breit officiating. VISITATION will be one hour prior to her service. Burial will be in Fruitland Township Cemetery. MEMORIALS may be directed to Paws With A Cause or Ferry Memorial Reformed Church.
