Karen F. Gartland's Obituary
Mrs. Karen F. Gartland, age 56, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 20, 2019 in Muskegon. She was born on April 28, 1963 in Fremont to John and Patricia (Carlson) Guss. Karen was Co-Owner of Suncoast Auto Center in Muskegon with her husband, Ed. She sold Avon, had a love for cats, and volunteered her time at Seminole Shores Assisted Living. Karen felt very strongly about being an organ donor, and was able to touch a lot of lives. On August 6, 1983, she married Edward Gartland, and he survives her along with her siblings, Debbie Pearson and Randy (Kelly) Guss; mother-in-law, Beverly Gartland; in-laws, Linda (Mike) Vanderberg, Paul (Cathy) Gartland, and Leo (Kathy) Gartland; nieces and nephews, Kevin (Casey), Angela (Dennis), Jill (Kevin), Lindsey, Jamison (Tara), Keegan, Nate (Alex), Haley, Tanya, Monica, Kory, Taylor, and Austin (Hailey); great-nieces and nephews, Noah, Lucas, Cambri, Monroe, Jaydn, and Rylee; step-siblings, Chris (Teresa) Hathaway, and Rhonda Hathaway. Karen was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Hathaway; father, John Guss; step-father, Richard Hathaway; father-in-law, Leo Gartland; and brother-in-law, John Pearson. FUNERAL SERVICES will be 1PM Friday, September 27, 2019 at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave, Muskegon, MI 49442 with Pastor John Brown officiating. VISITATION with Karen’s family will be 11:30 AM – 1 PM Friday, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to NOAH’s Project or Alzheimer’s Association will be appreciated.
