Karen J. Huggett's Obituary
Karen Jean Huggett, 67, of Fruitport, Michigan, passed away on February 9, 2025, in Muskegon, Michigan, the town where she was born at Hackley Hospital. A proud graduate of Fruitport High School, Class of 1975, Karen had a deep love for music, movies, and most of all, her family.
Following her graduation, Karen answered the call to serve her country, joining the United States Army in 1976. She was stationed in Germany and at Fort Worth Army Base, Texas, until 1980, before continuing her service with the National Guard until 1982. She carried the adventure, strength, and camaraderie of military life with her always.
Karen is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Howard and Lillian Holmstrom. She is survived by her brothers Carl (Kelly) Holmstrom, Roger Holmstrom, and Robert (Deanne) Holmstrom. Her legacy lives on through her children: Stephanie O’Bradovich, Michele Cobb, Kristopher (Chelsie) Ponder, Michael (Melinda) Cobb, Krystal (Jim) Bronnekant, Tony (Brittnie) Huggett, and Julia Carroll. She was a proud grandmother to Dominique Davis, Makenna O’Bradovich, Joanna Cobb, Killian Bronnekant, Lila Huggett, Ava Huggett, and Eli Carroll, and a loving great-grandmother to Skylar Rae Dreyer. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Karen had an incredible work ethic, spending years at Grand Haven Brass until its closure and later at Shape Corp. until her illness in 2012. Despite her health challenges, she remained in her home with the support of her devoted family and caregivers.
Her heart was as generous as it was strong. Whether lending a hand or sharing a song, Karen’s presence was a comfort to those around her. She found joy in the music of Bob Dylan, whose lyrics seemed to echo the stories of her life—filled with resilience, love, and a touch of wanderlust. She could often be heard humming "Forever Young" or reflecting on the poetry of "Blowin’ in the Wind."
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 12 PM to 2 PM at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3734, 5201 Airline Rd., Muskegon, MI 49444. Lunch will be provided. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Karen’s memory to Fisher House Michigan, supporting veterans and their families.
Karen’s love, laughter, and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed but never forgotten. As Dylan once said, “May your heart always be joyful, and may your song always be sung.” Hers will be—by all who knew and loved her.
