Karen M. Newald's Obituary
Karen M. Newald, age 84, went home to be with her beloved Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 6, 2021. She was born September 10, 1936 in Muskegon to John and Kathleen (Holt) Kieft and was a lifelong resident of the area. Karen married Ronald P. Newald on August 31, 1957 and they were married 57 wonderful years before he passed away on January 20, 2015. She was a lifelong member of Berean Church in Norton Shores (now known as Anchor Point Bible Church), where she was very active. Karen was head of the decorating and funeral committees for years, she also enjoyed singing in the choir and soloing occasionally. At the center of Karen’s life was her family. She cherished time spent with her children and was so proud of her grandchildren. Karen always made people smile, and talked to everyone whether she knew them or not. She was known and loved at the places she frequented because of her ready smile and positive outlook. She filled her free time with reading, gardening, watching her birds and doing her dot to dot books. She LOVED chocolate and would be seen frequently “sneaking” a piece. She was an amazing person and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include 4 children, Mark (Lila) Newald, Randy (Aileen) Newald, Kristi (Richard) Kozal, Kelly (Quinn) Barry; 8 grandchildren, Eric, Melissa, Rebecca, Stephanie, Patrick, Andrea, Colleen, Maura; 9 great-grandchildren and many step-grandchildren; 1 brother, Kenneth (Yvonne) Kieft; 1 sister-in-law, Judy (Terry) Colburn; and “adopted” daughters, Kristi, Nancy and Susie. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Anchor Point Bible Church (635 Seminole Rd., Norton Shores) with Pastor Rob Renburg officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Memorial Contributions may be directed to Anchor Point Bible Church or Up and Out Ministries (www.upandoutministries.org). Interment will take place at Norton Cemetery. Arrangements handled by The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI 49444.
