Karen R. "Cookie" Sherman's Obituary
Karen R. “Cookie” Sherman, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 18, 1942, to Raymond and Catherine (Ozanich) Cook in Lansing, MI, but grew up in Trout Lake, Michigan, in the Eastern Upper Peninsula. After the passing of her father Raymond, Karen was blessed to gain a loving stepfather, Harry Geske, who became a cherished father figure.
Karen was a proud graduate of Rudyard High School, class of 1960. On September 16, 1990, she married Gary Sherman in Ann Arbor, and the couple joyfully shared the news with their families when visiting in Muskegon. Together, they enjoyed many years of love, laughter, and partnership, until his passing in 2002.
In her earlier years, Karen had a passion for gardening and nurturing the family farm. She was also an avid puzzle and crossword enthusiast and a gifted cook, often preparing delicious meals for friends and family. Above all, Karen’s greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren, and her warmth, radiant smile, and striking beauty will never be forgotten.
Karen will be remembered for her generosity, her quick wit, and the laughter she brought to those around her. She was deeply loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Karen is survived by her children, Caroline (Lynn) Kops, Kim (Joel) Kuznar, Jean (Don) Medema, Michael (Becky) Kuznar, and Kristen (Randy) Stokes; five grandchildren, Alexandra Catherine Rae (Garryn), Emily, Eddie, Mikayla, and Garrett; sister, Debbie (Scott) Suggitt; brothers, Brent (Nina) Geske and Jeff (Charlotte) Geske; best friend, Rilla Jo; several nieces and nephews; many dear friends; a special thank you to her wonderful caregiver, Sherry Bottema.
