Katharine M. Baker's Obituary
Katharine Mary Hall Baker, age 86, of Grand Haven, Michigan and Treasure Island, Florida passed away peacefully Saturday, August 12, 2006. She was born September 9, 1919, to Preston M. and Rachel (Winship) Hall in Livermore Falls, Maine. She attended Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts and Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio where she met and married her husband, John Douglas Baker. They were married on August 31, 1941 in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Kathy was a talented artist who enjoyed painting, gardening, bird and squirrel watching, and spending lots of quality time with her family. She played tennis and golf and was a former 9-Hole Club Champion at Spring Lake Country Club. Mrs. Baker was a realtor with Wurtz & Galy and was a past president of the League of Women Voters.
Survivors include her husband Doug; two daughters, Rachel (Walter Foote) Calderon of Grand Rapids, Ginny (Larry) McFadden and their son Luke of Grand Haven; two sons, Dick (Cindy) Baker and their children Melissa, Allison, Nada and Sarah of Grand Haven; Bruce (Chris) Baker and their children Sarah, Annie, and Dan of Grand Haven; five great-grandchildren; a sister Evelyn Russell, and two brothers, Ed (Dottie) Hall and Skip (Rosemary) Hall all of Massachusetts; and many nieces and nephews.
The service for Mrs. Baker will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 24, 2006, at First Presbyterian Church in Grand Haven with Rev. Thomas Cook officiating. Friends may meet the family 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23rd, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven. Interment will be in Lakeshore Cemetery, Grand Haven.
