Mrs. Katherine (Katie) Engelhard's Obituary
Mrs. Katherine (Katie) Engelhard passed away on Tuesday January 20, 2015. She was 92 years old. Katie was born on September 15, 1922 to John and Anna Gary in Schutzen, Austria. Her family immigrated to the United States and arrived on Ellis Island. Their family then settled in Muskegon. In 1945 she married William Engelhard and together they were blessed with 5 children and 63 years of marriage until his death in 2009. Katie and Bill were two of the founding members of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. She loved to read, cook, spend time with her family and attend church. She was a caring, giving and friendly woman who will be deeply missed. Katie is survived by her children, Cathy (Dan) Alvesteffer, Bill Engelhard, Tom (Janene) Engelhard, Mary (Jim) Curcuru and Martha (Tom) Tutak; 11 grandchildren, Tom, Joe, Kelly, Kristin, Travis, Jordan, Leah, Nicole, Kim, Rachel and Kari; 11 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and sister, Ann Begley. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill; parents; and sisters, Helen Postema and Pauline Siperly. In accordance with her wishes, a private family Mass has already taken place. Memorial contributions can be made to Harbor Hospice or St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.
