Katherine Alice Ogilvie's Obituary
Katherine Alice Ogilvie of Lapeer, Michigan went to be with her Lord and Maker and her husband of 49 years on February 13, 2020. She died at Roosevelt Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Roosevelt Park, Michigan. She had recently celebrated her 101st birthday there. She was born January 29, 1919 in Troy, N.Y. to John and Elizabeth Bruce. The family moved to Ferndale, Michigan and survived the Great Depression. Kay went to Hazel Park High School and was secretary of her class. She graduated from Walsh Business College and was a practicing accountant for over 50 years.
Kay was President and Secretary of the Parent Teacher Association in the Troy, Michigan Schools and volunteered for many activities and groups in which her children were involved, including what would grow into the Troy Public Library.
Relocating to Lapeer in 1981 where her parents had moved in 1946, Kay joined the Oregon United Methodist Church and served as Treasurer there for many years. She had been an American Red Cross volunteer and a member of the Elba Township Lions Club. She was an avid reader, and an excellent cook in the tradition of her mother and grandmother. Kay loved gardening and especially her beautiful roses.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, William Bruce; husband, Walter; and daughter, Elizabeth Knapton. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Tom) Hunt of Dunlap, Illinois, and sons Bruce Ogilvie of Lapeer and Lyle Ogilvie of Whitehall; grandchildren, Bonnie Christians of Berkley, Matt (Glenda) Walsh of Clawson, Clayton (Rayna) Walsh of Debary, Florida, and Olivia Hunt of Burke, Virginia; and great-grandchildren, Ryan Christians of Chandler, AZ, and Robert and Rachel Walsh of Clawson.
Kay was grateful for the love and support of her many friends including Doreen Pike, Helen Moore, Pam Winfield, Mary Ann and Peggy Thomas, and many others who proceeded her in death. Her constant companion for the last 10 years was her golden retriever, MacTavish, whom she adored.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial celebration will be held in May 2020.
