Katherine Swiftney's Obituary
Mrs. Katherine Swiftney, age 100, of Grand Haven passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Grand Pines Assisted Living. She was born on July 24, 1914 to Bert and Antonia (Deneka) Przysucha. On May 22, 1937, she married Henry Albert Swiftney, son of Albert and Jennie (Zuidema) Swiftney. He passed away on April 13, 1994.
Mrs. Swiftney has been a life-long resident of Grand Haven and also a life-long member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She volunteered at her church and also at North Ottawa Community Hospital, where she served for 25 years. She was a member of the O’Brien Circle and St. Patrick’s Altar Society and also regularly attended a bible study session there. She derived much pleasure in being a homemaker and loved her family dearly. She was a Eucharistic minister, and her hobbies included sewing, reading, and solving crossword puzzles.
Survivors are her sons, Henry (Polly) Swiftney of Vero Beach, Florida and Richard (Barbara) Swiftney of Shelby Township, Michigan; grandchildren Mark Swiftney of Gurnee, Illinois, Lisa (Eric) Strons of Libertyville, Illinois, Michael Swiftney of Shelby Township, Michigan, Steven (Laurie) Swiftney of Rochester Hills, Michigan and Kathryn (Jeff) Humason of Macomb, Michigan; and 9 great-grandchildren Jessica, Matthew, Carly, Devin, Brenna, John Henry, Joseph, Kelly June and Avery Hope along with many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Helen (Robert) Woyche of Muskegon and Annette Przysucha of Grand Haven; and brother, John of Venice, Florida.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Saturday, March 21, 2015 at St. Patrick-St. Anthony Catholic Church with Rev. Father Norman P. Droski officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will take place in Lake Forest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Katherine may be given to St. Patrick-St. Anthony Catholic Church or Hospice of North Ottawa Community.
