Mrs. Kathleen P. Sherburn's Obituary
Mrs. Kathleen P. Sherburn, 91, died peacefully in her sleep early Sunday morning, May 29, 2016, and joined her best friend and husband Frank, and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in heaven. She was born December 18, 1924 to John and Ella (VanAkker) Gokey in Bay City, and moved to the Muskegon area in 1929. Kathleen was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. While raising her family she went back to school and received her teaching certificate. She later earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Michigan State University and for 10 years was the principal at St. Michaels School before retiring. Prior to St. Michael’s she also taught at St. Jean’s. On September 6, 1947 she married Frank E. Sherburn, and he preceded her in death on June 2, 2010. SURVIVORS include her 4 children, Gregory (Dena) Sherburn of Birmingham, MI, Thomas Sherburn of Norton Shores, Stephen Sherburn of Muskegon, Patty (James) Siewert of Muskegon; 10 grandchlidren, Adam, Jordan, Evan, Joe, Kaitlyn, Sam, Chris, Jake, Andrea and Kurtis; 1 great-grandchild, Madalynn. She was also preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers and 2 sisters. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 2, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Marian Chapel. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the Mass, and burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery. You may visit the family’s online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com.
