Kathryn "Katie" Burns' Obituary
Kathryn (Katie) Burns, 87, of Muskegon, Michigan, passed away after a short battle with pneumonia on November 28th, 2022, surrounded by her beloved family in Fremont, California.
Katie was the first of three daughters born to Armand and Anna Archambault, followed by her sisters Marylyn and Mickie, with whom she shared a special, life-long bond, strengthened by daily conversations no matter how far apart.
Katie grew up and attended school in Davison, Michigan. While living in Ann Arbor and working at the Psych Clinic at the University of Michigan she discovered her love of Social Work. As a single mom, she worked full time while attending college and eventually graduated from Grand Valley State with a Master’s degree in Social Work. She worked at Child and Family Services in Muskegon for over 15 years until she retired in 1999 to go into private practice. A woman of many talents, she also co-owned A Catered Affair with her close friend Roz, in addition to selling vegetables, flowers and homemade bread at the local farmer’s market.
Katie was a huge fan of University of Michigan football and was thrilled to see the Wolverines beat the Buckeyes a few days before her passing. Her daughters have fond memories of attending the home games with their mom in the $2 student section.
Katie loved to stay busy and live an independent life. She had a magnetic personality and formed many dear friendships in Michigan and Arizona. She enjoyed the theatre; singing and dancing; book clubs; dinner parties and traveling the world to visit friends and family. She was active in sports her entire life, but most of us remember her love of golf. She was laid to rest in her favorite St. Andrew’s Golf Club sweater.
Katie is survived by her two daughters, Kim (Daryll) Alt and Lisa (Jim) Coleman; grandchildren, James, Alex, Amy (Garrett) and Sam, and great-grandchild, Zachary. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Mary “Mickie” (John) Riek and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Muskegon Rescue Mission (www.muskegonmission.org) or First Tee West Michigan (www.firstteewestmichigan.org).
