Kathryn Cecelia Koval's Obituary
Mrs. Kathryn Cecelia Koval, age 92, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2018 in Spring Lake, Michigan. She was born in Ludington, Michigan on November 4, 1925 to Daniel and Alberta (Brown) Tufts. Kathryn was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she was active with the Funeral Lunch Committee and the Rosary and Altar Society. She was a Girl Scout and Brownie Leader, a devoted mother and grandmother, and an animal lover. Kathryn had worked at Continental Motors for nine years prior to building, owning, and operating the North Shore Mobile Home Park in Ferrysburg for over 40 years. On October 3, 1952, Kathryn married Leonard Koval in Grand Haven, Michigan and he preceded her in death on April 22, 2006. She is survived by four children, Karen Koval, Leijhi Koval, Mary Ellen Mendiola, and Jerome (Janelle) Koval; four grandchildren, Amber (Jason Suarez) Mendiola, Dalen (Amanda) Mendiola, Angelica (Lance Riggs) Mendiola, Brendan McLaughlin; two step-grandchildren, Lori Stewart and Glen Stewart; two great-granddaughters, Alexa and Ella and one step-great-granddaughter, Selena. In addition to her husband, Kathryn was preceded in death by an infant son, Daniel Defoe Koval; son-in-law, Valentine Mendiola; two sisters, Betty Taylor and Mary Carskadon; and four brothers, Charles, William, Robert, and Hiram Tufts. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 10:00 AM Thursday, August 16, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (406 E. Savidge St., Spring Lake) with Rev. Fr. David Gross presiding. Burial will be in Fruitport Pine Hill Cemetery. Memorials in Kathryn’s memory may be directed to Muskegon Kid’s Food Basket.
