Kathryn M. "Kay" Schuitema's Obituary
Mrs. Kathryn M. “Kay” Schuitema, age 100, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2024, in Muskegon. The former Kathryn Marcella Brondyke was born in Muskegon on July 5, 1923. Kay married Ralph Clarence Schuitema on August 7, 1942, and he preceded her in death on August 12, 1973. She had been employed by Sunrise Memorial Gardens for over 21 years, and retired from Pachesny-Jend Funeral Home. Kay was a charter member of Hope Reformed Church in Muskegon. She greatly enjoyed singing with the Melodears. Survivors include her five children: Ronald L. (Judy) Schuitema, Larry R. (Cindy) Schuitema, Bruce R. (Diane) Schuitema, Linda K. (Julie Joppie) Schuitema, Lisa M. (Brian) Miles, Daughter-in-law, Amy Schuitema; 11 grandchildren17 great-grandchildren; brother, Russell (Norma) Brondyke; special step-granddaughter Andrea Lynn Rausch; and special niece Lynn Miller. She was also preceded in death by her son Mark R. Schuitema, twin-brothers Jay E. and Arthur Brondyke, brother Wayne Brondyke, and sister Delores “Dee” DeGraff. A service to celebrate and remember Kay’s life will be held Saturday, May 4, at 2:30 PM at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444, with Rev. John DeBoer officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Schuitema may be made to the Muskegon Rescue Mission.
