Kathy Hanson's Obituary
Kathy Hanson, age 64, born and raised in Grand Haven, MI, mother of six loving children, passed away Saturday, September 26th, 2020 at her home in the presence of those who loved her. She was born August 29th, 1956 to Ellwyn “Al” and Helen (Bar) Hanson. She married John Zuidema, Jr. on July 7th, 1984. They spent the next 36 years traveling the backroads of Michigan and raising their children, all the while searching for their next great adventure.
Kathy was a member of St. Patrick and St. Anthony Catholic Church, and she devoted her life to the love of family, friends, and Christ. She was a doting grandmother, an avid gardener, and a decorating savant.
She is survived by her loving, yet cantankerous husband, John, Jr.; her incredible children and their spouses: Adam and Jenifer Brown, Josh Brown, Nicole Brown and Edwin Holub, Jonathan Zuidema, Joanna Zuidema, and David Zuidema; her eight beautiful grandchildren: Nathaniel, Alyssa, Isis, Brighid, Madison, Mallorie, Owen, and Elwin; her resolute mother, Helen Hanson; her caring siblings: Margaret Hanson, Tom (Judy) Hanson, Jane (Bob) Siegel, Paula (Tom) Byrne, and Eileen (Jeff) Markovicz; numerous nieces and nephews, and her sentry dog, Gracie. She was preceded in death by her father, Al; and her sister, Barbara Morris.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, October 5th, 2020 at St. Patrick – St. Anthony Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Schwartz officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions in memory of Kathy may be given to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
