Kathy L. Tipsword's Obituary
Kathy Lynn Tipsword, age 73, of Muskegon, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 8, 2025, with her loving family at her side, after a quiet but ferocious battle with cancer.
Born June 26, 1952, in Muskegon, to Thomas and Marilyn (Wansten) Muriset, Kathy graduated from Mona Shores High School in 1970 and later went on to become an LPN. She devoted many years of her career as an LPN and Office Manager at OBGYN Associates in Muskegon, where she was known for her professionalism, compassion, and kindness, before retiring.
On August 5, 1977, she married the love of her life, Ronnie “Ron” Tipsword, in Muskegon. Together, they shared 48 years of marriage filled with love, family, and friends. Kathy cherished spending summers in Muskegon and winters in Florida. In Florida, she was able to enjoy her favorite pastimes—tennis and boating. She played competitive tennis throughout her entire adult life, building lifelong friendships both on and off the court.
Above all, Kathy treasured time with her grandchildren and rarely missed a sporting event or milestone in their lives. Her unwavering love and support will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her husband, Ron; three children: Lisa (Ken) Rose of Norton Shores, Philip (Abby) Young of Vermont, and Robert (Liz) Tipsword of Tennessee; seven grandchildren: Ellery Rose, Brady (Anna Anderson) Rose, Chloe Rose, Astrid Young, Oliver Young, Eli Young, and Livie Tipsword; three sisters: Julie (Vic) Cerchiori, Laurel (Dave) Dodd, and Debbie Muriset; stepbrothers: Cameron (Karla) Reynolds and Chad (Deanna) Muriset; sister-in-law, Roberta Bredeson; stepmother, Wanda McElhaney; stepsister-in-law, Marcia Reynolds; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; stepbrother, Chris Reynolds; and brothers-in-law, Tom Flowers and Clifford Bredeson.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Wings of Mercy will be greatly appreciated.
