Kay Mary (Machovsky) "The Hat Lady" Horvath's Obituary
Mrs. Kay Mary (Machovsky)Horvath "The Hat Lady", age 65, died Thursday afternoon, January 13, 2011, at the home of her son, David. She was born June 17, 1945, in Shelby, MI, to Frank J. and Leatrice L. (Schmiedeknecht) Machovsky and had resided in Muskegon most of her life. Kay was a 1963 graduate of Montague High School and enjoyed golfing and trips to the casino. Kay will be remembered for making coffee and donuts for over 200 family and friends on Fat Tuesday. In 2002, she retired as a Claims Representative for the Social Security Administration. She had previously worked for the Muskegon County Draft Board. SURVIVORS include 2 children, Danielle Ames of Kingsley, MI and David (Ronda) Ames of Muskegon; 5 grandchildren, Blake, Kori, Madison, Jimmy and Jessica; 1 great-granddaughter, Briley; her mother, Leatrice Machovsky; 3 sisters, Sharyl (Bart) Oliver of AZ, Leann (Scott) Smith of Whitehall and Jill (John) Mastee of Muskegon; 1 brother, Frank Machovsky, Jr. of WI and by many nieces and nephews. Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph in 2003 and by her father, Frank in 1988. THE MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church of Montague with the Rev. Fr. Phillip J. Witkowski presiding. VISITATION with Kay’s family will be from 5-8 PM Monday at St. James Catholic Church (5149 Dowling St., Montague, MI 49437) with a SCRIPTURE SERVICE held at 5:15 PM. Burial will be in Rothbury at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Cemetery. For a more lasting memorial, you are asked to consider St. James Catholic Church.
